SLS — A Club-Style Skyscraper with Dubai’s Trendiest Hotel
SLS is an American hotel brand owned by Accor and currently has 10 hotels across destinations including Miami, Cancun, the Bahamas, Beverly Hills, and Buenos Aires, with one of its flagship properties in Dubai.
This post is about the Dubai property.
SLS Dubai is located in Business Bay, in a part of the district that is still undergoing rapid development. That can come as a surprise the first time you visit, but remember that Dubai Marina was once desert too.
The tower rises 75 stories. The ground floor features a grand entrance, a café, and a dramatic ramp leading down to the parking area.
The first 32 floors are dedicated to two-level residences designed for permanent living, with private pools, a fitness center, and conference facilities. The next 32 floors house the hotel, including duplex rooms and penthouses with spectacular views over Downtown Dubai, Burj Khalifa, and the Dubai Creek wildlife sanctuary.
But the real action is on the top five floors. This is where you'll find a grand lobby with soaring ceilings, a fitness center, a spa with multiple pools, a collection of stylish restaurants, Dubai's highest outdoor swimming pool, and even its own nightclub.
That's why I call it a club-style skyscraper: there's always something going on.
By the pool terrace, you'll find one of the hotel's most recognizable symbols—a giant metal duck designed by Philippe Starck.
The residential apartments are almost completely sold out, but the developer has prepared an interesting proposition for investors. Hotel units come with two investment programs:
— 7% annual returns in US dollars for 10 years, with the option to stay at the hotel free of charge for up to 28 days a year.
— 5% annual returns in US dollars for 10 years, with a buyback option at the end of the contract. This is the more conservative option, particularly popular with risk-averse European and Asian investors.
The development is packed with design details, from the lobby, elevators, and guest rooms to the many art installations and striking pieces scattered throughout the building.
