The Loop — Walking Track
Last week, architecture firm URB unveiled renderings for The Loop, a covered route for running, cycling, and walking that would stretch for 93 kilometers and connect Dubai’s coastal districts.
One of Dubai’s current drawbacks is its limited pedestrian infrastructure. The city was largely built over just 20 years, so getting from one neighborhood to another on foot can be difficult. I barely saw any cyclists during my time in the city. And in early spring and summer, the heat makes spending time outdoors even less appealing.
The Loop’s climate-controlled environment could help address some of these urban challenges. Based on the proposed route, cyclists and scooter riders could travel between neighborhoods without traffic or traffic lights—for example, from Dubai Marina to Business Bay or DIFC.
It would be great to see Dubai include The Loop in its Master Plan 2040 and actually turn this pedestrian and cycling superhighway into reality.
