The Loop - an indoor pedestrian highway in Dubai
Last week, architecture firm URB released a rendering of The Loop project, an indoor pedestrian path for running, cycling and walking that will span 93 kilometers and connect Dubai's coastal areas with each other.
Now one of the downsides of Dubai is its poor pedestrian infrastructure. The city was built over 20 years, so it can be problematic to walk from one neighborhood to another. On bicycles I saw almost no one in the city. In addition, in early spring and summer, the streets are very hot.
The Loop's fresh air-conditioned indoor track will partially remedy these urban imperfections. Judging by the map, it will be possible to get from Marina to Business Bay or DIFC, for example, by bike or scooter without traffic jams or stoplights.
It would be cool if Dubai authorities include The Loop in Master Plan 2040 and still build this pedestrian and bicycle thoroughfare. What do you think?
